Grief and Bereavement Counsellor in Croydon, XX

I’m Lurlene Angela DeCosta, a licensed counsellor providing grief and bereavement therapy serving Croydon, and surrounding areas.

I specialize in loss and bereavement, with a passion for pregnancy loss. I also support those who have experienced loss by violent death, suicide, complicated grief.  I’ve had many life experiences, which have shaped who I am today. I have a large family and enjoy caring for my pets, I am also a part time carer and do charity work.   I enjoy working with all sorts of people of all ages.

I have a real interest in how the mind works and how it influences our wellbeing and health. I have a keen interest in cultural differences and how we express grief according to our upbringing while helping people discover what works for them to make them feel better.

I started this journey as a trained Bereavement Officer for a NHS hospital for 10 years.  I spent much of the time listening to people who were dealing with the loss of their loved one. Having experiencing loss myself, I became more passionate in this area especially pregnancy loss.  Having very little support during my experience, I decided to help people who are experiencing this sad and difficult time, giving support that I never had.

As well as having a wealth of life experiences and skills, I have worked as a bereavement support volunteer for St. Christopher’s Hospice I gained extensive experience in this type of work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
I trained as a Volunteer counsellor for Place2Be. During my time in School I have counselled children.

My approach is person-centred and I offer the use of creative materials and therapeutic play to allow the young client to access and process what may be difficult through the spoken word alone.
